This course is designed to introduce students to East Asian history, culture, literature, and the arts.

No other course is like it at the University of Georgia for a number of reasons:

  • The course is a mix of online lectures and live presentations by prominent faculty representing several different disciplines at UGA, as well as elsewhere in the USA.
  • Special lectures are also available as live video conferences originating at Columbia University in New York city.
  • Besides attending live video conferences students see archived video conference lectures by the faculty.
  • If not currently a student at UGA, students will receive special passwords to view archived Wimba Live Classroom lectures by the faculty on selected subjects. The lectures are found through Vista Blackboard.
  • Students may take college credit for the course or elect to participate without officially taking college credit.
  • Participants may be upper level undergraduates or graduate students, as well as teachers currently working in the public or private schools throughout Georgia.
  • Teachers not officially enrolled may apply to receive PLU credits for the course.
  • Students who complete the course may apply for special overseas Study Tours sponsored by NCTA.

NOTE: The video conferences that are conducted LIVE on the UGA campus are located in the Center for Teaching and Learning; North Instructional Plaza between Journalism and Psychology on the lower plaza level. Please enter the North doors and turn right to the Video Conference Classroom. Students in Gwinnett County should proceed to The UGA Gwinnett Center located on Sever Road in Lawrenceville. Room number for the course at this facility will be provided in early January.
